An interest such as \u201cartificial intelligence in medicine\u201d is a starting point, but it is too broad to guide a first academic discussion on its own. Narrowing an interest helps you identify what you want to understand, what knowledge you need and which questions to ask a teacher.<\/p>\n

\"Sechenov<\/figure>\n

Sechenov University’s Leaders in Health Innovations programme brings research development together with General Medicine and leadership. Identify what attracted your attention<\/h2>\n

Write down the observation that made the subject interesting. Was it a question about how a technology is used, how a scientific result is interpreted or how different professions work together? Write two or three possible questions and compare them. Which could you explain clearly? Which would require knowledge you have not yet studied? Which is broad enough to interest you but narrow enough to discuss? Use reading to refine the question<\/h2>\n

When reading introductory material, note what the source actually says, what you infer and what remains unanswered. Keep the reference with the note so that you can return to it. Avoid collecting attractive terms without understanding how they relate to your question. A shorter reading record with clear explanations is more useful than a long list of titles you cannot discuss.<\/p>\n

If your reading changes the question, record the change. Discovering that the first version was vague is progress. It shows that you are beginning to understand the boundaries of the subject. It is also a useful point to raise when asking a teacher how to continue.<\/p>\n

Ask about the next appropriate step<\/h2>\n

At a first discussion, you might ask which background concepts to study, which introductory sources are suitable or how student research opportunities are currently organised. Do not describe a hypothetical idea as an approved project. Any real activity needs the relevant supervision, permissions and university procedures.<\/p>\n
